The Rise Up Effect

To live for God, and further His cause on the earth.

So I went to the movies tonight... but I didn’t go see an action packed adrenaline rush, or the romantic comedy that makes you gush, or the scream inducing thriller... no I saw a movie titled, To Save A Life. I hope some other people got to see this as well because I left with this high... that I can't explain. The movie-- it just made you want to go out and do SOMETHING!! Lemme try to put my thoughts down clearly....

Umm, let’s see... (:
Has anyone seen the Dark Knight? I personally like that one a lot. Some great classic lines- my personal fav, "The night is always darkest before the dawn." or perhaps, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Now, I don't know how much truth is in the second line, but that is beyond the point. Ohkay, so I say that to say this:
A part in that movie that really stuck with me was a part when Harvey Dent, Gotham's DA and hero (not masked) is in the hospital. And the Joker comes in and messes with him. And he is doing this monologue. He says something along the lines of this...
"All the people, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how... pathetic their attempts to control things really are....
You know what I noticed? Nobody panics when things go according to plan-- even if the plan is horrifying...
Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos-- it's fear."

Now, the Joker, being a sadist and a masochist (someone who enjoys inflicting pain on others, then also on themselves) is not necessarily the best person to go to for advice, very true.
Then why are you quoting him, Rachel? Because there is some truth behind what he is saying.
See... we as people, we think. A lot. Too Much, even. I know I don't speak for myself when I say I let my brain get in the way too much. I'm not saying I shouldn't use it, just not let it be the guide of all my choices. See let's go back to the Joker... He says people are schemers trying to control their little worlds. We all have our little worlds which we live in... We have seperate communities, like Friends, and Family, and School, and Boyfriend, and Dance Class, and Youth Group... and God. And they all fit accordingly into our little world. We keep seperate the ones that don't see fitting together correctly, and make time for each of them... maybe more for one than we should, or less. But it’s all in "the Plan". Correct me if I'm wrong....
But like the Joker continues with, nobody panics if everything is going according to plan. So we go to school and do all the work and have some good "acquaintances". Then we come home and its Wednesday so we go to youth group, lift our hands in worship. That’s the plan, right? Our world is spinning and our supply of oxygen is keeping us alive. It’s all in "the Plan".
"Upset the established order and everything becomes chaos." Something wrong happens; the boyfriend breaks up with you. Your parents get divorced. You do something you can't take back. Somewhere, something is disturbed, in "the Plan". Now, your communities are clashing, some are becoming unpopulated. Things are not according to plan. CHAOS.
"Oh, and you know the thing about chaos-- it's fear."
So now, your tiny world is shifting on its axis, your oxygen level is all wrong. I have a friend, and when he is riding in the back of a car and someone opens the front window he says, no too much, I can't breathe. He says there is so much air coming in he physically cannot breathe. Do you think he really can't breathe, or maybe with so much air, he is afraid to try...?

I think what I am getting at is this:
Sometimes we focus way too much on OUR plans, OUR communities in OUR world, that we forget to look at HIS plan for HIS world which we are blessed to be in.
Maybe we spend too much time planning that we don't do the things that actually matter.
See me, I say forget MY plan, ask Him what HE wants and do it. I mean, what else can we do.... I don’t want to spend the rest of my life planning.

Seek first God's kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.
-Matthew 6:33

Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.
-Romans 12:2

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he's the one who will keep you on track.
-Proverbs 3:5-6

Girl this rocked my socks off! I totally know all you said to be TRUE! The day my personal life plans came to a screeching halt is when God grabbed hold of me and calmed the chaos. As I submitted to His plan He gave me joy and peace where previously there was lots of breath holding and worrying.
I am totally inspired and encouraged!!
Thanks for sharing this with us!
