The Rise Up Effect

To live for God, and further His cause on the earth.

I was presented with the WONDERFUL opportunity to let God shine through me to write devotionals for our church's upcoming missions trips to Costa Rica! I will post them as I write them if you would like to check them out! If you have any feedback- I would LOVE to hear it! I give God all the glory for these, I have been praying as I do them! If you would, pray for me as I do these, that I give my hands and heart  to God as I write them and let the Holy Spirit work through me! Thank you, and I hope you are able to get something out of this, as well!! :D

#1-
Congratulations- You have in front of you an opportunity to serve God in an amazing way, impact the hearts of God’s children, and have a change in your own heart! Start off today reading Genesis 1:26 and praying that God will speak to you through His word.

God created us in His image to live for and have a relationship with Him. In Genesis 3 we learn about “the fall.” Adam and Eve commit sin against God. Now dig into Genesis 3:7-10. What was God doing while Adam and Eve were hiding? _____________________________________________________________________________________

Can you imagine, God on this earth He created- looking for man! Even though man had sinned against Him, he still wanted to be with Him. The sin, of course came with consequence-but that is a whole ‘nother story! God desires a relationship with us so we can be more in His likeness. Read Colossians 3:17. It says: (Check those that apply)
 We can live for God when we feel like it
 Our words should be done in the name of Christ
 Our deeds should be done in the name of Christ
 We only need to thank God at Church
 We should be thanking God the Father in everything

Now, one definition for worship is: to give praise, honor and respect to God; reverence given to God. Do you see the similarity in the two? We were made to worship God! The question then arises, how do we take worship out of the sanctuary and into our everyday lives? Check out this quote from John Wesley, a Christian theologian, “Oh Lord, take full possession of my heart; raise there your throne, command there as you do in heaven. Being created by you, let me live for you; being created for you, let me always act for your glory and being redeemed by you let me give to you what is yours. And let my spirit cling to you alone for your name’s sake.” The only way for us to live a life of worship is to set apart our hearts, and consecrate ourselves for God’s purpose. Flip to 1Peter 2:9-12. We are to live as ambassadors of Christ, aliens to this world! That is a heavy responsibility, and it is only made possible to carry out through Christ and the Holy Spirit. All the way back to the Old Testament, read Leviticus 20:7-8.

Who makes us Holy?_______________________________________________________________

Pray to God our father, with thanksgiving! Thank Him for this opportunity and to keep your heart and mind set on things above (Colossians 3:1-2). Pray that through time spent with Him, through the divine Revelation of the Holy Spirit, you may understand His word, and hide it in your heart. Pray that you may be filled up with His love, so in turn you may pour it out into the Costa Ricans!

I encourage you to spend time in prayer, but also time reading His wonderful Word, and also listening and sitting in the presence of God!

Can you think of times in your life when you really gave your heart to God and He did amazing things with it?

What are some ways to worship God in our everyday lives?
